THSH are the Arts Champions for Sutton Coldfield for three years from April 2014
Birmingham City Council has teamed up with Birmingham arts organisations to enable residents get closer to the city’s world-class arts offerings. The city's arts companies act as Arts Champions, giving advice and support within the community to promote and deliver new activities.
To ensure wider access to the full range of world-class arts for Birmingham’s communities, the Arts Champions change geographic focus every 3 years. From April 2011 to March 2014, DanceXchange were the arts champions for Sutton Coldfield. Amongst other things, they ran a dance leadership programme for dance artists and teachers living and working in and around Sutton Coldfield. We really appreciated their support and hope their new district enjoys working with them as much as we did.
THSH took over in April 2014 and have exciting plans for our district!
They kicked off our new partnership with free, special events on 21 September at Mere Green Community Centre. Activities started at 1pm with an engaging, two-hour circular walk In Search of the Four Oaks led by Still Walking’s Martin Collins who took a look at the trees we encounter daily in our gardens, parklands and suburban streets.
This was followed by the screening of a series of short, animated films presented by Flatpack in association with MUBU Music, which provided children and adults alike with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy creating music and sound effects to accompany the animations with the help of gypsy-folk outfit Trio Damba.
Afterwards, there was a chance to chat and make friends over tea and biscuits with a social event to round off the afternoon. Click here for more information about these events.
THSH are taking part in the Made in Sutton Arts Festival on 14 February 2015. They are starting the afternoon with a walk along the Sutton New Hall boundary, starting at noon at the Anvil Inn on the corner of Reddicap Heath Road and Springfield Road. Lasting for about two hours, walkers will finish at the Verdo Lounge on Birmingham Road, Wylde Green. More information can be found here www.thsh.co.uk/event/arts-champions/.
They have then commissioned the Tom Walker Trio to provide a Concert on Your Doorstep from about 4.45 at Clifton Road Youth Centre, Sutton Coldfield, B73 6EB. This will be followed by a cream tea, with the event due to finish at 6pm.
Look out for the next set of events that THSH organise for our district.
